Thanks to a family connection, I was able to attend the Over the Mountain Touchdown Club‘s Bobby Bowden Coach of the Year Awards Banquet this past Sunday. If you follow me on Twitter, you saw many, many updates and pictures from the event. You also probably saw from the pictures that I was able to get a really good seat, thanks to another family connection.
The event was a veritable who’s who of Auburn football. A few of the guys I remember seeing in attendance were Al Del Greco, Terry Henley, Joe Cribbs, Jay Jacobs, Ted Roof, Wes Byrum, Neil Caudle, Barrett Trotter, Ryan Shoemaker, Andrew McCain, Cole Cubelic, John Cubelic (who apparently pushed back a trip to New Zealand to work on a movie set, seriously), Stan White, and Ben Leard. I’m sure I missed somebody, but that was about as much name-dropping as I could do.
Fortunately, I was able to get all of Chizik’s acceptance speech on video (in two parts, below). There’s nothing too groundbreaking. It’s Chizik being Chizik, although there are a few good jokes in there. Speaking of jokes, Bobby Bowden (oh yeah, he was there too) tells the best grandfather-type jokes I’ve ever heard a thousand times already. I could listen to him talk all day, though. Anyway, here’s Chizik accepting the award from Del Greco.
