Reply To: Auburn Soccer and Where it Must Improve
I’m hoping to write about this more on College and Mag, but I think a bit of the problem this year has been that most of the goals have come from set pieces or runouts. Getting goals off of set pieces is great, but you have to be able to break an opponent down as well. The loss to Georgia magnified that. Georgia came in allowing the most goals, allowing the most shots on goal, and had the most saves (a bit of a dubious stat, because your defense was leaky enough to allow the shot in the first place). Auburn should have pushed multiple goals across and won handily. That result has me worried for Orange Beach and the NCAA Tournament.
