2012 National Signing Day Recap & Review
What started out looking grim, turned into a somewhat expected and slightly acceptable signing class for the 2012 Auburn Tigers, and it might not be finished. You can read the minute-by-minute updates on the National Signing Day running post from yesterday, but let's take a cleaner look at how the class panned out.

Behind the Scenes of National Signing Day 2012
Lost in all the Twitter/message board fodder of National Signing Day is the fact that the coaches are busy working to bring in and properly welcome new signees. In this behind the scenes video, you can see a little bit of that.
2012 National Signing Day Running Post… is done.
Are we doing this again? I guess so. It's National Signing Day. Three cheers. In all honesty, I'm glad it's here. Why? Because all of the committing and de-committing is over (mostly). We can put the 2011-2012 season in the books. We can move on to Spring and a new year.

Like last year, I will provide updates as soon as I get them. No doubt, with Twitter and all that, everybody in the world is going to tweet and retweet every single signing all day long. I'd guess each announcement will get at least 10,000 tweets. So why sift through all that? Let me do it for you. Just sit right here at the 'Blogle and hit refresh over and over. I'll give you everything you need to know.
Later in the day, once the class is final (at least for the day) and once Chizik has done his press conference at 3:00 PM CT, I'll do some sort of live chat like we did last year. It could be afternoon, it could be tonight, but it will happen. Again, keep hitting refresh and you'll see it.
I'll put the most recent updates at the top to make things easier on you. Be sure to check the schedule to know when guys should be making their announcements. Alright, that's enough. Now we wait for the faxes to come in...
National Signing Day Schedule for Auburn Recruits
Well it's almost here. The day grown men spend pulling their hair out, screaming, cheering, and bragging over the decisions of a few 17-18 year old boys. I don't mean to knock it. It is very important. The teams with the best players usually win.
That being said, I don't follow recruiting too closely, but I do pay attention on National Signing Day. I want to see who wants to play for Auburn, and if they don't, then get them out of my face.
Here is the current schedule (all times CST, all ratings from Rivals) for every player that has committed to Auburn, shown interest in Auburn, or is even considering Auburn. As you'll see, there are a few that don't have a time, but they also happen to be locks or already enrolled, so don't worry about them.

Pre-Signing Day Q&A with Justin Hokanson of Rivals
Justin Hokanson covers Auburn football and recruiting for Auburn's Rivals affiliate, AuburnSports.com, and also co-hosts the "Eyes on Auburn" radio show with Rob Pate. Hoke was nice enough to answer a few questions last year, and he must have enjoyed it because he wanted to do it again. DISCLAIMER: some of the questions are the exact same as last year because they are still work and because I was lazy.
You should follow him on Twitter, and be sure to get all the latest recruiting updates on AuburnSports.com. We will be doing a post-Signing Day interview as well to discuss Auburn's 2012 class. Note: I said that last year, and we never did. I promise we will this time.
1. Do you foresee any major surprises on National Signing Day?
I would imagine there will be a surprise, but no telling what it will be. It could be Auburn landing more than their fair share of Eddie Goldman, Ronald Darby, Leonard Williams, Avery Young, or it could be Auburn having to fall back on other prospects that may surprise people. I'd expect a surprise, but not sure which way the surprise will go right now.
2. What have other schools used against Auburn in their recruiting pitches this season?
The lack of coordinators, first and foremost. Auburn went an extended period of time without a defensive coordinator, and even longer without an offensive coordinator. Other schools used that against Auburn commitments and top targets, pitching the uncertainty of the direction of the defense or offense, and the fact that they wouldn't have time to build a relationship with the coordinator that is hired. Despite Auburn's five loss season, I don't think that played much into things. Auburn lost five games in 2009 and landed a top five class.
Patrick Miller Does No Hat Swap, Just Enrolls at Auburn
Earlier this morning, Justin Hokanson of AuburnSports.com reported that Rivals 250, 4-star OL Patrick Miller (Dwyer HS, West Palm Beach, FL) had switched his commitment from LSU to Auburn. There was no press conference. There was no hat swap. The dude just enrolled at Auburn and was in a classroom this morning.
I'll let the recruiting guys do their thing because they do it much better than me, but here's the only video of Miller that I found on YouTube. Normally, videos of offensive lineman prospects aren't the most exciting things in the world, but this one is an exception, especially since we know he's on our team now.
You remember that scene in The Blind Side where Michael Oher blocks the guy all the way down the field and over the fence. Yeah, this video is a bunch of that.
Watch Your Mouth When it Comes to Bashing Recruits
Over the past few years, college football recruiting has become a sport of it's own. With 24-7 coverage all year long, fans now have something to cheer, brag, or sulk about even when the fields are brown and unpainted. In a sense, this off-the-field competition had become just as fierce as a regular game day for those fans who have no offseason.
As the coverage gets better and better (or worse and worse), the number of those types of fans grows. For most of them, it's actually more of a competition of just getting the guy that the other team wanted as well. Who cares if he'll actually contribute quickly or pan out in the long run? Let's just hope he signs with us so we can point and laugh at the other team.
Auburn fans saw a lot of that yesterday as 5-star running back, T.J. Yeldon, de-committed from Auburn and committed to Alabama. As the message boards and Twitter blew up, I remained mostly silent on the whole thing. Was I bothered? Sure. Did I lose sleep over it? None.
I was actually more bothered by some of the reactions from the Auburn fans that didn't take the news too well. I saw some pretty ridiculous and crude tweets sent straight to Yeldon, as well as a few others that were just downright whiny. I'm sure the immediate and incessant bragging from Alabama fans was the cause, but we all need to remember a few things...
Thursday Mailbag: Trotter, Strengths, GOTC Part 2
Hey, I told you last week not to worry. Mailbags will be coming on any day of the week during the offseason. I know all three of you were worried. Alright, enough of that. Let's get to it.
Taylor is putting out an APB on Barrett Trotter. Trotter....? Trotter....?
What happened to Barrett Trotter? They never showed him on the sidelines during Iron Bowl. Wasn't even a mention of putting him in. Is there more below the surface?
He's still there. He's calling the plays in just like last year. They just don't really have a reason to mention him anymore since, technically, he's the third-string quarterback by now. Plus, with Auburn being beaten so badly in the last few games, there really wasn't any reason to talk about Auburn's unknown storylines from the sideline like they do when games are out of hand.
Instead, they were talking about Mark Richt and his hair that always seems to be windblown, and how the rematch of the century gave Verne ten more years to live. It's kind of sad because Trotter has paid his dues, but that's big boy football. Ask Neil Caudle.
