Interesting Tidbits After a While
Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but the amount of news that anyone actually cares about has been slim at best. Some of these are a little old, maybe so old that you forgot about them. You're welcome.
- Auburn's uniform has made the finals and will be taking on....wait...who?...Missouri? Yes, Missouri. You know... black helmet, puke gold numbers? That's the one. There is no way we can let that beat this. Vote now and often.
- Over the past decade, Auburn football has been better than Alabama football. Even the back-to-back undefeated SEC regular seasons couldn't put Alabama ahead of Auburn in any of these categories. Not one. Expected Bammer comment: "Wul ha mini nashunul champeeunships y'all gaht?"
- There's a war a'coming, and it's on the Auburn practice field.
- Is Cam Newton definitely the guy to beat?
- Pale Finebaum knows EXACTLY how Nick Saban tastes.
- Here's a composite schedule for the 2010 SEC football season.
- Want a closer look at the SEC West schedules?
- How about the SEC East schedules?
- What about a look at what to expect from the SEC West this spring from Chris 'I have to do widescreen videos so my face will fit, therefore I hate Auburn' Low?
- A few Scout.com guys make a few preseason predictions for the SEC. (Part 2)
- Darvin Adams finally gets a little credit, but it's just preseason hype.
- You've already seen this, but here's the last time Auburn wore orange jerseys. I'm over it.
- Ben Tate tore up the combine, and I like his confidence.
- You probably saw this too, but Marquis Daniels has a lot of money and a lot of creativity...or something like that.
- Baseball season has started, which shows how old this is, but the coaches picked Auburn to come in 5th in the SEC West. Of course they did...why wouldn't they?
- Tonight is the last game in Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum history as the Tigers take on Mississippi State. I will be there, and you should too.
Interesting Tidbits When There Isn’t Much to Talk About
This should be the last set of tidbits that include 2010 recruiting news. I sure hope it is. Enjoy.
- I'm about as tired of talking about recruiting as you probably are, and hopefully we can talk about real sports soon, but here are some more rankings.
- And more that are broken down by the SEC divisions. It just looks good to see Auburn on top of the West.
- And here's yet another SEC recruiting roundup.
- Here's a look at the number of signees from each state for all SEC teams. It must have been a down year for the state of Alabama, which is why Auburn had to settle for more in-state players. Alabama was going for the big dogs in Virginia.
- I'm sure you've all seen Saban's tirade after losing OL Spencer Region to Auburn.
- I just like this headline.
- If you were tired of looking at the list of 2010 signees, how about the signing class from 2005?
- What's to come in 2010 for Auburn football? This guy tells you.
- It's definitely not too early for a 2010 preseason ranking is it?
- How about Chris Low's pre-Spring SEC rankings? Did you know LSU is supposed to have a talented team?
- He also puts Ben Tate in his top 15 SEC players from this year. Darvin Adams better be in the top 10.
- Well at least Antonio Coleman made the top 10.
- In more important news, Auburn is up for best uniform in college football. Go vote now.
- But probably the best news of the pre-Spring, Zac Etheridge will be back to 100% by next season.
- Aairon Savage is glad to be back as well.
- Finebaum actually says something positive about Auburn, but Scarbinksy does not here or here, and then gives Alabama basketball coach Anthony Grant a pass for losing.
- CBS Sports reminds us that the basketball Tigers would have been one game out of first place in the West if they would have held on in Saturday's overtime loss to Arkansas.
- Lastly, Auburn plays Georgia (10-11, 2-6) tonight at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. If you live within 30 minutes of Auburn and think you can complain about the team or Lebo or whatever, why don't you actually show up to a game? Besides, the halftime show is one of the best I've ever seen...not kidding. We've seen what this team can do with a crowd behind their back, so if you want them to win, give 'em a crowd.
Interesting Tidbits Just Because
Just a few 'bits to get you through the day...
- Here are some pretty interesting notes and inner-talks about the 2010 class of recruits. Some are known. Some are shocking.
- You've seen the Rivals recruiting rankings, but these have a little more information. Auburn still beat Alabama in this one.
- Here are the recruiting rankings from just within the SEC.
- Rivals also gives two Auburn coaches a spot in their Class of 2010: Top 25 Recruiters.
- Chris Low talks about his top recruiters as well.
- And then he says Cam Newton is one of the top newcomers to watch in 2010 in the SEC.
- Woodbery gives us his list of impact players from this year's signees.
- Goldberg re-grades the men's basketball team after their OT loss to Arkansas, who now lead the SEC west.
Interesting Tidbits after Signing Day
National Signing Day is over, but the news, analysis, and prognostication has just begun. Today, I put together a nice little smörgåsbord of tibdts together for you regarding the signing class, a little bit of basketball, and some "insider news". Enjoy!
- Here's a short episode of Auburn Football: Every Day. It starts at 5:50 am with Chizik leaving his house on National Signing Day and ends with the last signee's name written on the whiteboard. This has to be one of the best, and coolest, videos I have ever seen. Don't tell me this coaching staff doesn't care.
- Chris Low ranks the SEC's recruiting classes and gives Auburn more than a passing grade. He goes into a little more detail here.
- Dennis Dodd of CBSsports.com apologizes to Gene Chizik.
- The rankings for this class are good and all, but what matters most is that almost all needs were met.
- Just a ton of notes from Rivals.com about Auburn's class, the future, and other stuff.
- CBSsports.com gives their take on Auburn Football after signing day as well.
- Who won the recruiting battle? Auburn or Alabama? I think you know considering I'm posting this article.
- Auburn got some big names, but what about the hidden talent like Ladarious Phillips and his awesome highlight video.
Interesting Tidbits before Signing Day 2010
Hello, my name is the WarBlogler. You may have heard of me. I used to write a lot on this blog, but laziness sunk in after the bowl game. I apologize. I post news and thoughts on Twitter constantly though. You should follow me.
Anyway, here are some interesting pieces of literature for your Auburn University football recruiting and basketball pleasure. Oh, and there are a few pieces about the dynasty, too.
- As you probably already know, Auburn picked up a nice 4-star commitment yesterday from Jeffrey Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker is the 5th-best defensive tackle in the nation according to those guys who stare at high school students a lot. He chose Auburn over Georgia and Miami. Good choice.
- Charles Goldberg posted some video of the press conference following Whitaker's announcement. He kind of reminds me of Charles Barkley without the whole 'Auburn hates black people' thing. I'm talking about Whitaker, not Goldberg. Goldberg could think that about Auburn. I don't know. I've never met him. Note: Listen to Whitaker, but watch the kid in his lap.
- Rivals.com has updated their recruiting rankings, which will obviously look completely different after tomorrow, but for now they have moved the "No Chance with Chizik" Tigers to #3, which is one spot ahead of the dynasty. I'm not sure if it was Whitaker's commitment or Keenan Allen's de-commitment from Alabama that is the cause of this, but it's pretty dang funny if you ask me. Allen was Alabama's #1 commitment this year. That's a shame. A real shame.
- These rankings are obviously very subject to change, but an addition of another 5-star commitment would definitely solidify a top-4 spot for the Tigers. That addition could be Mr. Marcus Lattimore, the 5-star RB, who is announcing his intentions today at 5 pm CST at his church. He is choosing between Auburn and South Carolina as most of you know. The Gamecocks have the in-state advantage, but Auburn has the "why would you want to play at South Carolina" advantage.
Interesting Tidbits While We Wait
Here's a healthy dose of bits for your pleasure. Again, sorry for the lack of posts. Things will pick back up once basketball season gets going and the bowls start.
- Which reminds me...you better sign up for the 2009/2010 WarBlogle.com Bowl Pick'em soon. You only have until 3:25 pm CST on Saturday. I've decided that the winner gets one of my Christmas presents. I am dead serious. Note for those that are giving me Christmas presents: don't let it be the one that is given away.
- Paul Finebaum wears Nick Saban pajamas.
- Auburn plays at Florida State in basketball tonight. They face a tall task.
- Auburn football got a lot of good early signees this week.
- The Auburn fan base has completely accepted Gene Chizik.
- Well, besides Charles Barkley, and that makes him a racist.
- If Auburn was a professional football team, Chris Todd and Antonio Coleman would have a "C" on their jersey.
- Phil Steele says Antonio Coleman is a 3rd-team All-American.
- Some site I've never heard of gives us their 2010 top 25. Auburn got considered... gee... thanks.
- Chris Low gives us a dumb idea for an All-SEC team, but at least Auburn has a few on it.
- He's not done, here's another dumb list.
- Darvin Adams wasn't on any "real" lists, and Trooper says that will motivate him.
- An Auburn fan/Northwestern grad educates us on the Wildcats. (Part 1, Part 2)
- If you want to see if he's telling the truth, it might be tough to get a ticket to the game. Things are CRAAAZZZZYYYY at the Auburn ticket office.
- Pat Forde picks Auburn in the Outback bowl. Is "bowl" supposed to be capitalized?
- Andy Staples lists a pretty strange "signature" moment of the decade in college football involving Tommy Tuberville, the 2004 season, and a bowl of oranges.
Interesting Tidbits during the Bowl Break
Sorry for the lack of posts, but there really hasn't been much to talk about. You get a rapid fire of bits today:
- Brandon Knox tipped in the game winner to take down Virginia. He had to because he missed about 87 free throws in the game.
- Top RB recruit Marcus Lattimore has trimmed his teams down to five. Auburn is one of them.
- Houston Nutt likes to scare his schools into giving him a raise.
- The announcers for all of the ESPN/ABC games are set. Auburn pulled the same crew that called their game against Arkansas.
- Home and Away teams have also been set for the bowl games. Auburn will be wearing blue.
- Auburn is an early 8-point favorite in the Outback Bowl.
- The Outback Bowl does a pretty good job when it comes to giving away free stuff.
- The AP All-SEC and Coaches' All-SEC teams have been released. Apparently Ben Tate isn't even the league's 4th best back. Darvin Adams sucks too I guess.
- The Plainsman Parking Lot gives us his "10 Musts for the 2010 Auburn football team". (Part 1/Part 2)
Interesting Tidbits after Alabama
Iron Bowl recaps/notes:
- If Alabama is the 2nd best team in the nation, doesn't that make Auburn #2.5 or #3 at worst?
- Scarbinsky wonders why Alabama is getting praised for the win in 2009, when Auburn's similar type of win in 2004 was bashed.
- He also says that the rivalry needed this type of game. Although it seems like he, and most Bammers, are acting like it's Auburn's fault that they game hasn't been as important or serious in recent years. Auburn is 6-2 in the last eight Iron Bowls mind you.
- Goldberg grades Auburn's Iron Bowl performance.
- For all you Todd-haters out there, and I know there are still a few, watch who makes the final block after running 70 or so yards on Terrell Zachary's 1st quarter touchdown run.
- Oh, he also threw more touchdown passes this season than Pat Sullivan and Jason Campbell ever did in one season.
- After the Iron Bowl, Auburn picked up a tight end commitment from Michael Dyer's teammate.
Rankings/polls:
- Chris Low seems to think that taking the number #2 team to the wire, and pretty much handling them for 55 minutes, warrants being dropped two spots and put among the ranks of Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
- Other polls have Auburn as high as 26th and as low as, well, not ranked at all.
Interesting Tidbits before Alabama (T’giving Edition)
Yeah there are a lot of these, but it's Iron Bowl week, and now you have something to do after your third helping of mashed potatoes. Happy Thanksgiving.
- Chris Low says we need to watch for the Ingram/Tate battle. He also reminds us that Nick Saban has never won in Jordan-Hare.
- Low also gives his take on the Iron Bowl from the Auburn perspective.
- Tony Barnhart, unlike most "experts", says if Auburn can repeat the 1989 magic, then the Tigers have a chance.
- A week or two ago, I mentioned Paul Finebaum and how he has handled the Eric Smith situation. This guy does a really good job of tearing him up.
- Auburn's new offense has severely improved its red zone efficiency compared to last year. As for Alabama, their placekicker, Leigh Tiffin, leads the nation in field goals inside the 20-yard line.
- Speaking of Tiffins...the older one, Van, hates Auburn. So what? Shouldn't he? Let's hope he has more reasons to hate the Tigers after this weekend.
- USA Today has some good notes about Alabama, like the fact that Saban says they can't think about the past (in reference to his 0-4 record in Auburn). Really? Alabama can't think about the past? Good luck with that one.
- This guy is pretty much a genius, and can tell you the score, big play, etc. from every Iron Bowl ever. He went to my church when I was a kid.
- Zac Etheridge wants to play football next year, and will be at the Iron Bowl this year.
- Chris Todd's numbers are going to look really good as time goes on.
- Ivan Maisel loves Tiger Walk. This article was written for an Iron Bowl in past, but it's still relevant today.
Interesting Tidbits before Alabama (Monday Edition)
With the short week, and Thanksgiving throw in too, expect a heavy dose of posts during the first three days of this glorious week. Today, I give you some bowl talk, a little bit of Iron Bowl talk, and the number one thing you want to read about this week: basketball.
- The bye week really, really, really, really helped the team.
- Jay G. Tate, of the Montgomery Advertiser, thinks so too.
- Chizik knows the Iron Bowl is important, but he's not changing anything in terms or preparation...and he shouldn't.
- Here's more of what Coach said about the Iron Bowl, and a few players, in his weekly press conference.
- Scarbinsky is his normal love-the-favorite self.
- Chris Low says Auburn is going to the Music City Bowl. He also keeps Auburn at the bottom of the middle tier of the SEC. Again, one spot below Tennessee, who Auburn beat head-to-head. Oh, and the Tigers also have a better record.
- The two other guys from ESPN.com say Auburn is going to the Liberty or Outback Bowl against some pretty unique* opponents.
- Of course everybody in the world is picking Alabama, but so did everybody in 1989.
- I know this guy isn't serious. He can't be.
- The basketball team went 1-2 in the Glen Wilkes Classic over the weekend, including a last second, 2-point loss to NC State. That at least sounds promising right?
*-unique means crappy and boring
