Georgia Review: Fumbling the Opportunity

It felt a lot like the Mississippi State game. The hype was there for Georgia fans. They hadn’t played at home in over a month. The scene was electric. Auburn’s loss to Texas A&M gave them hope. Todd Gurley was returning. They had everything on their side.

For Auburn, it definitely started better than the Mississippi State game. The offense moved the ball down the field, converting on some 3rd downs to quiet the barking. Leading up to the game, it was said it would a shootout because of the lack of defense on both teams. It at least looked like it on the first drive.

499-2AHYF.AuSt.55

Gurley then came on the field and took his spot near the goal line to accept the kickoff. He had returned to college football after breaking the rules, knowingly breaking the rules. He caught the ball deep in the endzone, but everybody knew he wasn’t going to take a knee. He proceeded to run the ball 100 yards untouched. But oops, someone on his team broke the rules. It broke the Dawg fans’ spirit for a bit.

Then their offense sputtered, and they were forced to punt. Good job, Auburn defense. Oh, what’s this? Great, they’re running a fake punt and the dude is wide open. But oops, another Dawg broke the rules. It really broke the Dawg fans’s spirit.

Auburn then had the chance to go up 14 and really put them out of it. You could tell Georgia fans expected Auburn to score on every play by the way they were cheering when the Tigers only gained five yards. 14 points would have been enough to do it.

But Auburn had to punt, and then Georgia went 3-and-out, and it was looking good. Here was Auburn’s 2nd chance to go up two scores. The Dawgs were reeling. There was doubt all around me in that freezing upper deck.

“That Georgia guy sure is getting close to Quan,” I thought two seconds before Quan fumbled the punt. “Where’s the halo?” Oh, that’s right. It doesn’t exist anymore. It didn’t matter. Quan fumbled the punt, and the stadium exploded. It was everything they had hoped for. It was everything they needed to win the game.

I’m not putting the game on one guy, but I will put it on that play. After that, it was Georgia’s game. They were somehow, all of a sudden the better team. They had the better running backs, the better defense, the better everything. They didn’t, but that’s what it felt like.

After that, nothing went right for Auburn. There was one glimmer of hope when the Tigers forced another punt, but a roughing the kicker penalty extended a drive and gave the Dawgs another touchdown. It was terrible. It was awful, and I don’t just mean the hospitality.

Georgia has owned Auburn in the last decade, and there is no reason for it. Since 2005, other than the two years Auburn went to the National Championship game, the Dawgs have won every one. That makes no sense. We’re talking unranked Georgia teams, we’re talking about 5-win Georgia teams, we’re talking teams that were blown out by an awful Florida team two weeks ago. It makes no sense.

Auburn is the better team, as they have been many of those years, but they just didn’t play like it. They had their chances, and they let it get away in the worst way imaginable.

It ended Auburn’s playoff hopes, but it didn’t end the season. Samford is up next. It will be nice to see Kodi Burns and Pat Sullivan return.

After that, you know what’s next. It’s the thing that can make all things right. If Auburn can play like we know they can, it will be made right. But for now, just forget Georgia. It’s best in all things.

Let me get this straight: You think Auburn is better than UGA. Auburn fans amaze me. You have the worst defense in the SEC. Gus luck has run out. You should have been 8-4 last year. You will be this year. Auburn has been exposed. Saban will beat you by 30. Just like that pathetic UGA team. There is not a more delusional fan base in America than Auburn.

So Florida is better than Georgia? How about South Carolina?

Losses typically give a team focus. Most great coaches have great records coming off a loss. I’m sure Gus will when it is all said and done. This is just excuses being made for a team that wasn’t ready and got their teeth kicked in. Period. From the opening kickoff the Dwags were the ones setting the tone. That #14 popped Corey Grant in the mouth. Hell, I love our Tigers but Georgia got screwed on the fake punt. Know what the score would have been then? I’m disappointed in everyone at The Plains. From Gus to Ballboy. We should be better as a program but we took a step back. Beat Bama and anything can happen. Now we could be a 4-loss team easily. Year two magic? Marshall, Coates, Duke, Dismukes, Gabe, CAP, etc ain’t coming back. Worried about 2015.

Auburn is the better team than who? Vanderbilt? Yes I agree. They aren’t even on the same planet as UGA. One team plays defense.

That’s RIGHT! Just ask Florida about UGA’s defense!

We ARE a better team than what showed up on the field Saturday against GA. I think losing Duke was a big factor to the offense being productive. I don’t understand why we don’t use Uzomah more in the offense. I think he has good hands and he was our leading receiver. We were missing the big plays that Sammie provides. In the early part of the season we when Sammie wasn’t on Duke was and vice versa. Too much UGA love in this comment section. We are our worst enemy.

I think Auburn has done more than Georgia has this year. Therefore better. Auburn didn’t take the opportunity to go up two scores, instead they let the home team with everything behind them take it and run with it. An inspired team beat a less inspired team. Has nothing to do with who’s better. Kinda like Florida-Georgia, right?

Yep, Auburn’s usually the better team.

I would call you a homer, but that would be an offense to homers everywhere. You’re more like those wack job fans who call in to Finebaum….

“PAWWWWWWL, I don’t care what you say. We is better than BAMA and we is gonna win by 4 touchdowns PAWWWL.”

Who gives a rip. It doesn’t matter, dude. On that day, hell yeah Florida was better. They beat the crap out of UGA, just like UGA beat the crap out of Auburn. So you can make yourself feel better by thinking Auburn is better than UGA, but it doesn’t mean anything. When it mattered, you got the crap kicked out of you. It doesn’t matter if UGA is better than SC or Florida. We LOST TO THEM, but WE BEAT AUBURN.

Own it and stop your pathetic excuses. This is why so many people can’t stand Auburn fans. Your delusional and you never take blame for anything. There’s always an excuse.

Joe, do you not see the similarities between your argument about the UF/UGA game and Blogle’s statement about the UGA/AU game?

ON THAT DAY, UF WAS BETTER THAN UGA! Same thing: on Saturday, UGA WAS BETTER THAN AU!

Did you read the rest of what I said? It doesn’t matter. I’ll own up to it when UGA sucks. This guy doesn’t. He just makes excuses and resorts to some “we’re actually better” mumbo jumbo. You had a chance to prove you were better and you didn’t. Own it.

Coach Mark Richt has a good saying for games like this past Auburn/Georgia – ‘The winning team is typically not as good as they looked, and the losing team is rarely as bad as they looked’. That’s why you have to be thankful for the tape

Auburn did not have the same intensity, and they were embarrassed for it. And i’m referring to the players and the coaching staff.

Dear UGA fans,

This a Blog run by an Auburn fan for Auburn fans.

There should be no illusion or misconception that the information presented on this site will have at minimum some bias towards Auburn.

I am certain that similar sites exist for UGA fans. I can not cite any because I do not care and thus do not seek them out, and certainly would not waste time trolling there comment boards.

Commenting on this site because you have a problem with the posts exhibiting Auburn bias comes off as arrogant and/or ignorant on your part, and to some extent the university you propose to represent.

I understand you believe your team to be the better, and having won the game your record seemingly supports that. Using win-loss as your basis for the better team this year creates kind of a conundrum though: USC beat UGA, AU beat USC, UF beat UGA, USC beat UF, UGA beat AU. Based on these facts I have no clue who the better team is, maybe if Auburn beats UF in a bowl game I can say we are?

Fortunately that doesn’t really matter and I will continue to support Auburn with as much dignity as I can, and I hope you do the same for your university.

P.s. I gave that name since most will see me as such anyway.

Well done. Some of them don’t seem to get this notion.

Besides, shouldn’t you dillholes be making fun of Ga Tech fans now or something instead some of you continuing to sit here and pound your chest? Based on what I’ve heard from a number of AU folks and how they were treated in your “fine” city, however, I guess it’s not so surprising.

And yet for UGA to be soo superior to Auburn where are the championships guys? SEC and national? Oh that’s right, BAHAHAHA there aren’t any! Gotta go all the way back to 1980 for a NC and 2005 for one SEC title not three. They are inbred retards and if by some miracle they make it to the SEC title game they will shit their doggie diapers at the sight of Bama, they always do. I’ve never seen one group of idiots fear another group of similar idiots the way they do

UGA fans just like to argue. Even though auburn has lost to Uga 7 out of the last 9 and had a 3 win season they are still the better program. Uga hasn’t had a sec championship in 9 years. Uga hasn’t had a Heisman winner since 82. Uga hasn’t won a national championship since 82. Actually all they have done since 82 is won 2 sec championships. Auburn has had 7 sec championships 2 Heisman winners 2 undefeated seasons and a national championship. So Uga fans talk all you want your right you win games but auburn wins championships and quite frankly that’s all that matters.

The Alpha Male 11/20/2014 at 8:52 am

I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it here as I bathe in your tears…… Auburn fans grossly overestimate your relevance in college football….. It’s not enough to bask in your successes however infrequently they might occur, instead you assert some delusionally righteous indignation that everyone in college football doesn’t stop and bow the knee and proclaim Auburn the champion of all things good and perfect. It’s crap. You’re traditionally a second tier program in your own state, the proverbial Jan Brady of college football. Like her unrelenting jealousy of her older, prettier, more popular sister, Auburn has to live in a world where it can do nothing to stem the “Tide” of Alabama tradition and fame. Even when you win a National Title, nobody outside of Opelika cares or takes notice for more than a month. I was amazed by how short a discussion topic AU’s national title was in 2011 even by the talking heads at ESPN. By February, nobody cared. Why? Because Auburn doesn’t matter. It might suck to admit it, but it’s still the truth. Auburn is the Jan Brady in a state where Marsha has everyone’s heart…. and by the way, I’m not a Bama fan.

Reply
The WarBlogler 11/20/2014 at 11:13 am

I like how you say Auburn isn’t good because they are in the same state as Alabama, like any other team has that distinction. Do you think Georgia is good because they are better than Georgia Tech? Oh, and thanks for the click.

Lol this guy above “alpha male” You should really get a life

Reply
Chris 11/20/2014 at 10:55 am

Yeah I’m sure alpha male lives in his mother’s basement and plays World of Warcraft 24/7. Anyway, isn’t Auburn success much more frequent than UGA? I believe it is. That’s a statistical fact. And your right the success Auburn has had the last 10 years means that the football program is irrelevant, that’s why ESPN consistently talks about the state of Alabama and our superior football programs. Not that I put much stock into what ESPN analyst say, but it will happen in a couple more weeks when the Iron Bowl rolls around. Alpha male must be mad because no program in the state of Georgia has won anything in years, and when they did it was those second class rambling wreckers, as labeled by UGA fans, from GT. No one cared about the BS cocktail party and he is probably jealous that the Iron Bowl coverage will out kick the UGA vs GT game. And if Auburn is Jan Brady then UGA must be Mike Brady, the gay father who died of the aids.

JoshG 11/21/2014 at 1:27 am

Auburn will be a 4, possibly 5 loss team. This is what they call “relevant.” They lose 7 of 9 games to Georgia, who they refer to as inferior. Their last 2 successful quarterbacks stole from college kids and team mates….and they LOVE them. They make AIDS jokes about football teams in comment sections. This is the “All In” mindset. It’s really creepy.

Reply
War eagle 11/21/2014 at 7:59 am

Real good chance Uga could be a 4 loss team this year too. Making a mistake shouldn’t define you as a person the rest of your life. Being relevant is how many championships you have won not your last ten year record in one rivalry. We don’t care what you have to say joshg move on with your life. Congratulations on the win for your team but move along.

It’s nice to have championship nostalgia josh, u wouldn’t know anything about that though would you? Good luck with GT. Now get off our blogs, go troll and make dumber the UGA fans you belong with. I’m also sorry your so sensitive little guy, another thing that’s wrong with society, but that’s a totally different subject. Now go put your kid in time out and leave the grown folks be.
