Week 9 Predictions: Let’s Try This Again

Last week was rough in the prediction world, but on the bright side, it was rough for everybody. I hate to see my predictions go down left and right, but I love days like that. It proves that the people paid to layout the landscape of college football have no idea what they are talking about.

Right now my predictions are hitting at a 81.9% click. After going 5-7 last week, I’m pretty proud of that. I hadn’t missed more than two games a week all season, though, so bummer. If you would like to prove your worth with your picks and try to do better than my 47.5% accuracy against the spread, you can do so here.

Last Week: 5-7 (41.7%), ATS at PickOrPlay.com: 5-7 (41.7%)
EA NCAA 14: 7-5 (58.3%)

This Week: 12-1 (92.3%), ATS at PickOrPlay.com: 0-0 (0.0%)
EA NCAA 14: 10-3 (76.9%)

Overall: 98-20 (83.1%), ATS at PickOrPlay.com: 38-42 (47.5%)
EA NCAA 14: 86-32 (72.9%)

10/24

Kentucky at Mississippi State (-10.5) – HOO BOY, we got us a good one here folks. The Wildcats are coming to Starkville. I know the Maroon and White nation will be out in full force! Come early and stay late, Bulldog fans. We need you to show the nation what maroons football is all about! Whatever, it’s Kentucky.

EA: Mississippi State 37, Kentucky 10 – SUCCESS!
WB: Mississippi State 31, Kentucky 13 – SUCCESS!

Mississippi State 28, Kentucky 22

10/26

Vanderbilt at Texas A&M (-17.5) – Johnny Manziel will play. That’s what the people in College Station say. Aggie fans should be glad Texas is a farming, rodeoing state because it means there’s an abundant supply of horse tranquilizers to shoot up in ol’ John Pigskin’s shoulder. Vandy’s all hopped up on their win over half-a-Georgia last week. It won’t mean a thing. Johnboy’s mad.

EA: Texas A&M 52, Vanderbilt 14 – SUCCESS!
WB: Texas A&M 45, Vanderbilt 21 – SUCCESS!

Texas A&M 56, Vanderbilt 24

Tennessee at Alabama (-28) – This is a large line. Does Vegas not put any stock into the Vols’ win over South Carolina last week? Do they think Alabama is that good? I think the game will be slightly close for a while. I don’t know why. Maybe the “rivalry”? Alabama will win big, though.

EA: Alabama 29, Tennessee 3 – SUCCESS!
WB: Alabama 36, Tennessee 10 – SUCCESS!

Alabama 45, Tennessee 10

South Carolina at Missouri (-3) – So let’s see, Missouri’s big wins are against half-a-Georgia, half-a-Florida (with a backup QB), and now they get just-beaten-by-the-Vols South Carolina without Connor Shaw. We’re just gonna hand it to them, football gods? The Zou is rolling and they’ll probably win this one to continue the overhype. EA is not convinced.

EA: South Carolina 38, Missouri 7 – SUCCESS!
WB: Missouri 28, South Carolina 21 – FAILURE

South Carolina 27, Missouri 24 (OT)

Fuman at LSU (-46.5) – Yeah, Furman University Christian Knights this game.

EA: LSU 38, Furman 10 – SUCCESS!
WB: LSU 45, Furman 0 – SUCCESS!

LSU 48, Furman 16

Idaho at Ole Miss (41.5) – I like potatoes.

EA: Ole Miss 42, Idaho 18 – SUCCESS!
WB: Ole Miss 48, Idaho 7 – SUCCESS!

Ole Miss 59, Idaho 14

Florida Atlantic at Auburn (-23.5) – Check my game preview tomorrow for my thoughts, but EA Sports, who already has Auburn with four losses at this point, is thinking upset. EA Sports is on crack.

EA: Florida Atlantic 31, Auburn 17 – FAILURE
WB: Auburn 49, Florida Atlantic 7 – SUCCESS!

Auburn 45, Florida Atlantic 10

And now for the national games to fill out the pick ’em slate…

Utah at USC (-7) – Utah beat Stanford, but they’ve also lost some games to keep them in the depths. USC lost to Notre Dame last week in a low-scoring affair. They’re probably good enough to beat Utah though, right?

EA: USC 56, Utah 13 – SUCCESS!
WB: USC 24, Utah 14 – SUCCESS!

USC 19, Utah 3

UCLA at Oregon (-23) – UCLA started off strong, but took one on the chin at Stanford last week. Apparently that equates to a beat down by Oregon. Yep, it probably does, but isn’t it about time for Oregon to inexplicably lose a game to make way for a 3-loss Alabama to get back in the national title game?

EA: Oregon 42, UCLA 14 – SUCCESS!
WB: Oregon 38, UCLA 21 – SUCCESS!

Oregon 42, UCLA 14

Texas at TCU (-2) – We’ve been over this before: TCU is not the same TCU as they were when they were playing in the Mountain West. A higher level of competition will do that. Even so, they are a slight favorite over Texas. That has to hurt the Longhorn faithful. It won’t happen, though. Texas will win.

EA: Texas 38, TCU 21 – SUCCESS!
WB: Texas 31, TCU 20 – SUCCESS!

Texas 30, TCU 7

Penn State at Ohio State (-14.5) – Penn State is my 2nd team for a few years. Those players didn’t touch kids. Those players went to school to play football. Therefore, I am pulling for that football team to beat everybody but Auburn. Will they knock off Ohio State? Probably not, but I want them to.

EA: Ohio State 35, Penn State 7 – SUCCESS!
WB: Ohio State 31, Penn State 14 – SUCCESS!

Ohio State 63, Penn State 14

Stanford (-3.5) at Oregon State Oregon State started the season with a loss to Eastern Washington. Since then, they have not lost a game and are currently 6-1. They haven’t really beaten anybody special, but that’s still somewhat impressive. Stanford is still really good, but probably not as good as everybody expected them to be. Oregon State upset? No, but close.

EA: Oregon State 27, Stanford 3 – FAILURE
WB: Stanford 31, Oregon State 28 – SUCCESS!

Stanford 20, Oregon State 12

North Carolina State at Florida State (-32) – The last four times that a ranked Florida State played an unranked North Carolina State, the Seminoles lost. That’s a pretty impressive stat. However, this Florida State is a tad better than those other teams. They aren’t the elite that everyone wants to call them (just because they beat a team that always loses a big game badly), but they are very good. EA Sports has more guts than I do.

EA: North Carolina State 45, Florida State 31 – FAILURE
WB: Florida State 45, North Carolina State 10 – SUCCESS!

Florida State 49, North Carolina State 17

Now use all of the knowledge you just gained and go make your picks (or if you real fancy, do it real at William Hill online gambling). If you’re not taken directly to the group after you login/register, just go to the groups link and search ‘warblogle.’ Remember, each week is separate. If you missed last week, no excuses.

REMINDER: Kentucky and Mississippi State play tonight (Thursday), so don’t forget to get that one in today.

I’m confused by your Florida St prediction. It looks like you are calling an upset? “WB: Florida State 31, North Carolina State 45”

Nah, just completely forgot to put in the score. Fixed. Thanks for reading to the bitter end, though!
