The Auburn-Georgia game, the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, has had plenty of moments that make it one of the more exciting rivalries in the country. Fortunately, most of the moments from the last decade are on YouTube. Let’s take a walk down memory lane…
Who remembers the beat down of ’99? I remember sitting on my couch just laughing as Ben Leard and Ronney Daniels ran all over the Bulldogs. It was like Ben Leard hated Georgia or something (note: he does). We start off with a very long, but very positive look at the game, with almost all of Auburn’s offensive snaps.
So after 13 minutes of Auburn goodness, we have to come back down to Earth with the 2002 game and the play that won Georgia their first SEC East title in years, while ripping my heart out of my chest as a student watching mere feet away.
The 1999 game was a beatdown, but the 2004 game was all out domination. For whatever reason, there aren’t many highlights of the game on the ‘Tube, other than that time Junior Rosegreen tried his best to fuse his helmet with Reggie Brown’s by shear force. Brown was okay, dont give me crap about making light of the hit.
Three years after my heart was ripped from my chest, the favor was returned in probably my favorite moment of any Auburn-Georgia game. The best part is hearing the Auburn crowd take over as the souls were removed from those that bark.
The 2007 game is probably one of the more infuriating events of my lifetime. Was it because of the football game? No. It was because of Soulja Boy. Every time I watch this I get more angry. The only good part is that after all that dancing and jumping around, the kicker kicks the ball out of bounds. Doh. Oh, and #19 at the 0:25 mark, you’re so gangsta.

Sadly, there are no real highlights of last year’s game, instead we have nothing but whiny videos about Auburn’s “dirty play.”
On top of a nice little second-half beatdown, what better to add than a little “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye…” to send the Bullpups home?

I really hate Georgia
The worst part about the 2002 game was that play was on 4th down and they had run the exact same play all 3 previous downs. Willis knocked it away on 1st and second down. He had the interception right in his chest on third down but dropped it. On 4th down Willis was in position but tripped going up for the ball. I remember that on par with Ben Obamanu dropping the TD pass against Ole Miss.
Ah, yes, 1999…never to be forgotten…I’d agreed to babysit for friends because I wasn’t feeling good about the game. ‘Figured I’d do a good deed, watching the game over toddlers’ heads kinda puts it in perspective in case it went as badly as I feared. I left my house as the game was starting, did not listen to the radio, and when I got to my friends’ house, they ran out screaming it was 21-0!!! That taught me the meaning of “any given Saturday.” War Eagle!
The uga fans did whine an awful lot about the game last year. To be quite honest I could see a potential rule change for the spear in the back, but other than that, to borrow from a movie about Marine’s on their birthday,”why don’t they go hump someone else’s leg?”
I’m sorry. Did I miss the highlights of the 2006 game? I can’t remember what happened. Was Auburn ranked #5 and Georgia beat the crap out of you at home? Maybe a video clip of that game would help refresh my memory….prick

The “going rate” of such a player is the cost of a full scholarship. I don’t know what it is over at your school.

I’m not sure why you’re harping on that game, but first off, there are no videos on YouTube of that game that I could find. Plus, if you look at the post, you will see that I include games that Georgia won. Nothing was left out on purpose. These were the games with the best videos. Why you are in love with 2006, I do not know, but yeah…

I read that document and particularly enjoyed that statement that read “there was not ‘sufficient evidence’ that Cam Newton or Auburn knew of the attempts to cash in on his talent”. Wasn’t that the same ruling in the O.J. and Casey Anthony trial?

Man UGA fans are a bunch of whiny malcontents over that game last year. I can tell you from the moment they came out during warm-ups, UGA players were taunting fans. When the game started it was even worse. They were talking a lot of junk when they went up. And nice coach you’ve got there sanctioning his players to try and “take out” another player. Great job. When Murray went it out, it was because Fairley was blocked from behind into him. If the UGA players could actually get to Cam, I’m sure they would have thrown in a few later-than-desired hits on him as well. And that video, good lord, crying because Cam was staying still at the bottom of piles? GET. OVER. IT.

I’ve always loved how the message boards for both teams (or all good SEC teams for that matter) are filled with the same complaints about the other team, as though having grown up a few hours apart has made us into qualitatively different people. Georiga-Auburn has always been a close series—one of the closest, in fact—and that’s what makes it fun. I’m sure we could all pick out teams that we’d like to put against non-contemporary teams to see who’d win, but sadly, that’s not the nature of college football. Now quit character-bashing an entire group of people that you’d probably be good friends with (or at least civil toward) if you actually met.
Can’t wait ’til next year.
