FootballRoundtable of Tigers Past

Roundtable of Tigers Past – Talking Road Trips, etc.

Each week on the roundtable, I ask Kodi Burns (@AUKB18), Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic), and Jeris McIntyre a set of questions about last week’s game, this week’s game, and how each may have related to their playing careers at Auburn. This week I have decided to give you Jeris’s answers unedited. You will see why I have edited in the past (nothing bad), and that he may be the most excited person in the world. He also loves, and I mean loves, ellipses.

1. After the way Auburn held on to beat Mississippi State, have your expectations for their season changed?

Cole: Not really. I said 7-8 wins. They will still have to fight like hell to get 8, maybe 9. The schedule only increases in degree of difficulty.

Kodi: Expectations have not changed a bit. We are still young and have not had any road experience. I knew that Auburn would have exciting games, win, lose, or draw, and I’m not going back on that.

Jeris: No my expectations have not changed… In my eyes Auburn will always be able to compete and win in the SEC… I think every game is going to be like the Miss. State game very tough with a chance to win at the end of the game… we just need to get better every week!!!!!!!!

2. Were there any games from your career that had a similar ending?

Cole: Not on a definitive defensive stop. You don’t see that often. Especially a do or die rushing attempt.

Kodi: I believe the most similar game would be the Outback Bowl 2010. Our defense came up with a huge stop to win the game and it was a shoot out.

Jeris: Yes!!!!! The Hail Mary game against Georgia. It came down to the last play……that’s really the only game I can remember!!!!

3. How big of a deal is the first road game for a young player?

Cole: It is different. Takes adjusting to. Just more “firsts” to get out of the way. Lot of kids will fly for the first time, leave the state for the first time. It’s just different in many ways other than more fans for your opponent.

Kodi: It’s not a big deal at all, but when you have a young team it’s definitely a concern. They must know that the crowd will be crazy at the beginning and will eventually wear down.  But if you give them a reason to stay in the game, the 4th quarter will be tough.

Jeris: It’s going to be different at first, but once the game start its another game… I think it will be very exciting for the young players to play on the road!!!!

4. What road game was the most intimidating to you and why?

Cole: You mean the most fun? Tennessee was the loudest by far. LSU was the best people watching (all around, Ole Miss is a close second), and Florida was just crazy.

Kodi: No one game was intimidating to me, but the game that opened my eyes to what the SEC on the road is all about was Georgia 2007.

Jeris: LSU ….its just crazzzzzzy there…not intimidating just very wild!!!!!!!

5. How do you think Auburn will fare at Clemson? Score prediction?

Cole: I like AU to win. Both teams will force the run and be stubborn with it. But I feel the best passing performance wins. Clemson has OL issues and I’m not sold on Boyd. I’d say 31-28.

Kodi: It will be an exciting game. I do not know to much about Clemson so its tough to call a spread. I called LSU by 13 last night and I’ve been spot on lately.  I’m calling AU by 6, but don’t quote me on that because I know nothing about Clemson and have not seen them.

Jeris: Auburn 38, Clemson 21.

I think WDEwg was making reference to Kodi’s “don’t quote me on there.” To that I say, he was just using it as a figure of speech, like don’t bet on the game based on his prediction.
