What If Auburn Had Nike Pro Combat Uniforms?

Yep, it’s another uniform post (almost a year to the day that the famed blue helmet rumor of last season went large), but this time I’m just being hypothetical. Unless the higher-ups at Auburn were scared enough by what Under Armour made Maryland wear a few weeks ago, there is no chance Auburn will be wearing any Nike Pro Combat uniforms any time soon.

You may or may not remember from last season that the blue helmet rumor was actually preceded by a rumor that Auburn would wear blue pants in the Clemson game. In my post about that rumor, I showed you the Wayne County High School War Eagles who have a very similar uniform to Auburn’s, but with blue pants.

Over the weekend, a loyal Twitter follower, @bordete (whose sister is a glittery gameday sign-making phenom), was doing a little googling and ran across CraigJoe.com. Mr. Joe is an Ole Miss graduate and apparently enjoys creating mock versions of Nike Pro Combat uniforms for high school teams by request. Wayne County High School was one of those teams.

Since I knew that the WCHS mock-ups would be the same as an Auburn version, I asked him if he could switch out the logos to see how they’d look. In about 20 minutes, he had the Auburn versions ready to go. Here they are:

Update: Someone on the AUFamily.com forums has tweaked the Nike mock-ups and switched the logos to Under Armour, while adding more traditional Auburn stripes. Their version is at the bottom of the post.

Remember, these are just Mr. Joe’s creations based off of what Nike has had other teams wear. There is nothing official about this. It’s all in fun. I think they look pretty cool, but that doesn’t mean I want Auburn to wear anything like this. What do you think?

As fate would have it, the day I post this, LSU releases their Pro Combat uniforms that they will wear against Auburn on October 22.

Update: Here is the aforementioned Under Armour version from someone (nobody knows for sure) on AUFamily.com forums:

They do look cool, but what jumps out at me is the lack of meat on the players’ calves and ankles. They need to bulk up a little or they’re gonna snap like twigs.

I know that there are a lot of Auburn uniform purists out there who are gagging right now… but damn. Those look cool.

I must be a purist lol. I dont like them. I dont like them on any of the other teams either. But that’s just my opinion

gagging is an understatement, Au is consistently voted as one of the best uniforms in the country being traditional. Not a fan of Ga in any way shape or form but those uniforms kinda even erk me as the programs like these dont need the money nor the publicity, in other words why do it?

I am all for keeping the traditional Auburn tigers uniforms…but the all blue is SICK!

Why bother getting crazy Nike uniforms when Under Armor could make some just as crazy. I wouldn’t mind something different as long as it actually looks good. No Oregon highlighters or Georgia power rangers. Just a good combination of Orange and Navy!

I couldn’t agree more look at all the Texas tech uniforms that under armor put out for them especially the Oklahoma game. Auburn needs new uniforms, don’t get me wrong I like the traditional ones but to me it lacks style. Auburn needs just a little bit of taste to go on for another 100 years with minor changes, just like the ones we have now

I think they are really cool looking…but only hypothetically! I’m a fan of tradition, and think we should keep things the way they are! WDE

It would be exciting for the players, fans and recruits. I’d be for it once or twice a year if it hadn’t become an everyweekend thing around the SEC and College Football. Most people believe Auburn will never do something like this but imagine the statement it would make on a big recruiting weekend or on a nationally televised/high profile game like the Iron Bowl or vs. UGA. Kids like that stuff and it would just add to the desire to be an Auburn Tiger. WDE

Cant see it personally, the majority of the kids who would go to a school for the uniform end up also in the weekly papers arrst reports and ect. Kids who attend AU are not all about bling, most are excellent student atheletes who want mopre then just football.this being said AU has always been consistently voted atop the div 1 schools for the uniforms they currently wear. When I saw MSU with the bronze it made me pray AU would never do it,,,,”fight, fight, green and white”???????Nike even took it upon themselves to change school colors, colors that many of us have watched for over 40 years.

I have to agree with Jaden WDE. The effects on the recruiting would be awesome! I am a traditionalist and love our uniforms as is, however, it would be pretty cool to see us line up in something like the above once or twice (maybe against LSU?)

Man I hate to admit it, because I think we have the best-looking uniforms in college football, but the completely blue and the completely white versions look really good. Really really good. I wouldn’t watching Tre Mason run back a kickoff in one of those.

I’m tired of “football costumes.” We sent Oregon packing last year despite the hype, and I say let’s let our play on the field and not the clothes on our backs determine the game. WDE!

I’m a traditionalist and love our uniforms, but I think a once-in-a-while alternate uniform would be great. Recruits eat that kind of thing up. If done strategically, I think it would be a great thing. I love the mock-ups in the article.

I keep reading how this would be good for recruiting. In what way? We’ve had two top 5 classes in a row, and that trend appears to be continuing. Go to ESPN’s recruiting site to see rankings of classes going back to 2006. Only ONE team in the top 10 for every year going back to 2006 has made any kind of over-the-top uniform change, and that’s Georgia (until LSU’s debacle to come later this year). Kids want to go where they can win, not to the team with the flashiest uni’s. Let’s get our heads out of the sand with the whole “it-will-help-recruiting” thing. I DEFINITELY don’t want to see us put on a new uni for a ‘special occasion,’ either. Does anyone recall UGA’s black-out? Who in their right minds wants to be the next in that fine tradition? If you win, ok, but if you lose it’s a permanent label of stupidity, forever seen as some gimmick you tried and failed with. The LAST thing we need is to come out in some gimmicky uni’s for the Iron Bowl or the LSU game, only to get our tails handed to us and have to live that down for the next 20 years. Losing is bad enough, but losing with a gimmick is even worse (ask UGA about the aforementioned blackout, or the Ducks with their last two SEC game uni’s). The mock-ups look nifty, but please, let’s just kick people’s butts on the field and leave well-enough alone.

hey. you guys get these recruiting classes because you PAY YOUR PLAYERS! why in the world would Cam Newton come to the “Auburn” Tigers! He could have transfered anywhere and gotten in and started. he chose auburn because they paid him. his dad was like a trashman and he lives in a huge house! get ready for some NCAA sanctions War Eagle. ITS COMING

Dwight you’re taking it too seriously. We don’t REALLY want to change uniforms. This is FAO.

Sorry if I came on a bit strong, Nancy, but when I see comments about how these uni tricks will somehow bolster recruiting or should be used on ‘special occasions’ (see above) I want to cut them off at the pass ASAP.

Why couldn’t we wear that combo for 1 game every year. Either for homecoming or for the first game of the season.

In the words of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, “We’re basically cheering for laundry!” It’s not the uniforms, it’s who’s in them and what they do while they are in the uniforms.

I think we should do a ‘pro combat’ uniform for the LSU game as well. There would be no better time to break out the blue helment, blue pants and orange jersey than that game.

The blue helmet might actually help in the game since LSU is going with a white helmet that is awful similar looking to ours.

Southern tradition is what won me over to college football. I love the history that Auburn had. And the SEC has some of the classiest uniforms in all of college sports. Yes even that other school in our state has nice looking unis. I’ll be damned if I see Auburn fall with the likes of LSeww and UGAly. I think Georgia has some of the best looking uniforms in college football, but what they brought out against Boise was hideous. I was personaly embarassed for them. While some of those mock ups look pertty cool, keep it in high school or give it to a school like Troy or FIU. We don’t need gimmiks to win or recruit. Please Auburn, in the immortal words of Ron Burgundy, “Keep it classy”.

auburn will not get pro combat uniforms because auburn beat oregon in the national championship and the owner of Nike went to Oregon, thus the reason why Oregon has so many jerseys. Maybe if Cam Newton didnt play like such a bitch and Auburn had won that game playing real football Nike would see things differently. Enjoy getting mopped up by LSU on October 22nd.

GEAUX TIGERS

P.S. War Eagle makes no sense. What a joke.

You’re right, Cam Newton should’ve played more like a man and kicked people in the face in a bar fight. And misspelling ‘go’ makes way more sense than having “War Eagle” as a battle cry. Glad you stopped by to set us straight.
