The Blogler Survives Wreck, Bloglemobile Does Not

Disclaimer: This post has absolutely nothing to do with Auburn or sports, but given the amount of questions I have received regarding a recent and very scary incident in my life, I decided to do a post to fill everyone in.

One week ago today, I was making my mundane commute on I-459 South from Blogleville to my day job in Hoover, AL (no, I don’t blogle for a living). In a split second, my truck was spinning into the median.

When I got out of the truck , I felt like I was in the opening scene of LOST. Debris was scattered all around, I was confused, and people were walking around looking for someone to help. A man walked me over to the median and gave me a t-shirt to stop the bleeding on my head, while a random nurse, who had stopped from the other side of the interstate, rubbed my back until the paramedics arrived. I was able to walk and was coherent enough to know what was going on, but they insisted on strapping me down on a stretcher and taking me in an ambulance to UAB Hospital.

There were no major injuries to anyone else involved, but I had a few. Here are a few pictures. WARNING: there will be blood.

All of the causes of these injuries are assumptions on my part because I don’t really remember much from the time I hit the car until the time my truck stopped spinning off the side of the interstate.

The airbags did deploy and also deployed the bottom half of one of my teeth to an unknown destination. There’s a Bammer joke somewhere in this.

The airbags also caused this nice little burn on my arm, which looks way worse than it felt.

The last bit of destruction caused by the airbags was what I would describe as a really bad rug burn on my forehead. It also buzzed/burned a little patch of my hair. Yes, my forehead is actually that big.

Being that the impact was in the front right of my truck, the radio/air conditioning area was moved way left and hit my leg pretty hard causing my knees to knock together and a hematoma on the leg that was hit.

Besides my broken tooth, which is currently in a temporary crown, the only injury that will take some major time to heal is a broken bone in my left wrist. I assume it broke from the steering wheel being jammed back into my hands.

Side note: I was worried for a while after seeing this hanging in the ER that they may find out who I am and sabotage the situation, but they did a great job. I guess my identity was kept under wraps.

Given the amount of damage to my truck, I got off very, very lucky. In fact, when I walked into the office at the junkyard to get what I could out of my truck, the manager, who has obviously seen his share of mangled vehicles said, “that was your truck, and that’s all that happened to you?”

I didn’t get a chance to look at my truck before leaving in the ambulance, but I figured it was bad. I didn’t realize how bad until I walked out to the junkyard. Here’s what I saw:

I’m not sure if you can tell, but the glove compartment is in the passenger seat.

The Aubie sticker was unhurt, but would not leave its home. It was a good Aubie sticker.

So as you can see, I was very lucky and blessed to come out as well as I did. In fact, look at the driver’s side and compare with the rest:

As of now, I have a splint on my wrist (which makes it very hard to blogle), my knees are getting better and I’m able to walk without much of a limp, most cuts/burns are almost healed, and I go back to the dentist in two weeks for a permanent crown.

I realize some of you don’t care about this that much, but I did receive lots of very nice and concerned tweets and emails the day of the accident, so I felt that I owed you an update. I appreciate all of the prayers and well wishes, and I know Beautiful Blogle and Baby Blogle do as well. Everything should be back to normal soon, and the ‘Blogle will be back as it once was…only better.

So glad you are ok! We Tiger diehards need you (and I am sure your family does too!) You could make an ad for your truck, unless of course you were anywhere else than the driver’s side. Get well soon – we are doing fabulous in recruiting in case you haven’t heard!

I got chills while reading this. I don’t know you but have been reading your articles for awhile now so I feel as if I know you somehow. You are blessed to have made it out of this alive. The instinct that took over the steering wheel at the last minute and made you turn left, saved your life. It’s amazing too that you didn’t have a passenger because their injuries would surpass a broken tooth and bruises. Amazing. Speedy recovery and WAR EAGLE.

Funny, how a cow pie hits the skids, posts his pics, and the first thought is “oh no, I’m in a University of ALABAMA hospital” – – -freakin pathetic. Glad you survived, you’ll be able to witness the barnergeddon.

Whats hilarious “13 More” is your lack of a sense of humor! (Okay maybe the fact that you want more mythical championships is pretty funny too)

Glad you are okay!
