The First Look – Ole Miss Rebels

ole-miss-logoAlright dude, I was this close to not posting this negativity on such a positive place for Auburn sports, but I’ll let the millions of readers decide what to do with you. So readers, what do I do?

Will Someone Hit the Snooze Button?

I’m beginning to think things are worse than we thought. Are we finally seeing this Auburn team’s true colors? The blogler doesn’t think so, but I think all those problems we were warned about (depth issues) were easily ignored during a five game winning streak and are now coming back to haunt us. What I can’t figure out is how does a quarterback in Chris Todd go from looking very good early in the season to looking worse than Jonathan Crompton?

Let’s not dwell on the last couple of games, but instead look forward to the Tiger’s match up with Ole Miss this weekend. As a student I’m not looking forward to having to wake up for this game. Kickoff is at 11:21 in the morning, which means I will need to be lined up at the gate two hours prior. I’m referring to this game as the Egg McMuffin bowl. I hate morning games. Not only do I not get to sleep in and/or tailgate before the game, but also I’m tired of watching us lose in the morning. On top of that, our team has plenty of issues going right now that really don’t make me feel good about our chances.

The first reason I’m not looking forward to this game is Dexter McCluster. Mix his speed with our defense’s horrible tackling, and you have a recipe for disaster. You saw what Kentucky’s running game did to Auburn? Yea, I’m not looking forward to seeing this guy touch the ball Saturday.

If the running game doesn’t turn out to be as big of a problem as we initially thought, then take a look at Jevan Snead. “But remember the South Carolina game? He’s not that great of a QB,” you might say, but remember how good our defense made Jordan Jefferson look last week? I don’t think many people would take Jefferson over Snead as their quarterback.

With all that said I believe we can win this game if our offense decides to come back from their 4-week vacation to Knoxville. I’m not feeling too good about it though. Can Chris Todd bounce back? That’s where this turn around has to start. If not then look for some more 2008 type offensive play. What do I think will happen? I don’t know. I don’t want to speculate. I just know that after it’s over with on Saturday, I might need to go back to bed.
